PLAN A BAPTISM

What is a Baptism?

Baptism is a gift of God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) in which He gives us saving faith. He connects the baptized to the benefits of Jesus’ perfect life, sacrificial death on the cross and victorious resurrection.

He calls the baptized by name and says, “You are mine!” He gifts us with forgiveness, abundant life, and the promise of paradise in heaven. He promises to be with us; not against us, but be present and on our side now and forever.

Baptism for Infants and Children

Baptism is a special gift from God where God sets his affection on us and makes everlasting promises to us. BUT, it’s only a beginning. It’s an incredible beginning, but it’s still a beginning. As parents, you will become one of the most important figures in the faith journey that follows after your child’s baptism. And we want to help you guide them on that journey. As you prepare for the baptism of your child take some time to read and pray about Matthew 28:16-20.
Then ask yourself:

Do you promise to raise your child to grow in the faith in our God; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit?

Do you promise to be active in worship and the life of Redeemer Lutheran Church (preferably) so that we can partner with you in the great lifelong journey of teaching that follows baptism? If not Redeemer Lutheran Church, then do you promise to be active in a Christian church where you live?

Do you wish for your child to be baptized?

Whether you are expecting a child, ready to schedule a baptism for your child, or just have questions about baptism let us know. We want to help you in whatever way we can. Please call the church office at 509-943-4967.

Baptism for Teenagers and Adults

In baptism, God pours out His grace and His Spirit on us. “…so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.” (Titus 3:7) This day comes at a different time for each of us. Every life is a journey and your baptism day begins a new chapter. If you want to know more about baptism or are ready to take this incredible step in your lifelong journey of faith please contact the church office at 509-943-4967.

Choosing Godparents/Sponsors

Consider who will be the godparents for your child. They do not have to be relatives and there is no “magic number” when it comes to godparents. Godparents will be taking on a spiritual responsibility for your child (praying for and encouraging spiritual growth). Whoever you choose will feel very honored. Remind them that this is a life-long commitment. They should model their life as a Christian living out their faith.

When choosing a godparent ask yourself:

Are they believers in our God; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit?

Are they active in worship in a Christian Church?

Can you count on them to be a good Christian role model for your child?

Can you count on them to pray regularly for your child?

Can you count on them to remind your child of their baptism often, especially on the anniversary of the baptism?

Planning the Baptism

Try to schedule the baptism before your baby is born, otherwise please schedule it as soon as you are able to. Contact the church office, 509-943-4967 and let us know when you would like your child baptized.

Because the gift of baptism is given to God’s people, we encourage families to have baptisms done during the worship service. Other arrangements can be made on an individual basis.
