How Do I

PLAN A BAPTISM

What is a Baptism?

Baptism is a gift of God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) in which He gives us saving faith. He connects the baptized to the benefits of Jesus’ perfect life, sacrificial death on the cross and victorious resurrection.

He calls the baptized by name and says, “You are mine!” He gifts us with forgiveness, abundant life, and the promise of paradise in heaven. He promises to be with us; not against us, but be present and on our side now and forever.

Baptism for Infants and Children

Baptism is a special gift from God where God sets his affection on us and makes everlasting promises to us. BUT, it’s only a beginning. It’s an incredible beginning, but it’s still a beginning. As parents, you will become one of the most important figures in the faith journey that follows after your child’s baptism. And we want to help you guide them on that journey. As you prepare for the baptism of your child take some time to read and pray about Matthew 28:16-20.
Then ask yourself:

Do you promise to raise your child to grow in the faith in our God; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit?

Do you promise to be active in worship and the life of Hales Corners Lutheran Church (preferably) so that we can partner with you in the great lifelong journey of teaching that follows baptism? If not Hales Corners Lutheran, then do you promise to be active in a Christian church where you live?

Do you wish for your child to be baptized?

Whether you are expecting a child, ready to schedule a baptism for your child, or just have questions about baptism let us know. We want to help you in whatever way we can. Please call the church office at 509-943-4967.

Baptism for Teenagers and Adults

In baptism, God pours out His grace and His Spirit on us. “…so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.” (Titus 3:7) This day comes at a different time for each of us. Every life is a journey and your baptism day begins a new chapter. If you want to know more about baptism or are ready to take this incredible step in your lifelong journey of faith please contact the church office at 509-943-4967.

Choosing Godparents/Sponsors

Consider who will be the godparents for your child. They do not have to be relatives and there is no “magic number” when it comes to godparents. Godparents will be taking on a spiritual responsibility for your child (praying for and encouraging spiritual growth). Whoever you choose will feel very honored. Remind them that this is a life-long commitment. They should model their life as a Christian living out their faith.

When choosing a godparent ask yourself:

Are they believers in our God; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit?

Are they active in worship in a Christian Church?

Can you count on them to be a good Christian role model for your child?

Can you count on them to pray regularly for your child?

Can you count on them to remind your child of their baptism often, especially on the anniversary of the baptism?

Planning the Baptism

Try to schedule the baptism before your baby is born, otherwise please schedule it as soon as you are able to. Contact the church office, 509-943-4967 and let us know when you would like your child baptized.

Because the gift of baptism is given to God’s people, we encourage families to have baptisms done during the worship service. Other arrangements can be made on an individual basis.

GETTING MARRIED AT REDEEMER

In May of 2013, at the “Marriage Summit,” the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS) affirmed, on the basis of Scripture, that marriage is the lifelong union of one man and one woman. As a member of the LCMS, Redeemer Lutheran Church conducts weddings that join one man and one woman who intend to be joined for their mutual lifetime (Genesis 2:2-4; Matthew 19:5-6).

Our Requirements

Must be a member of Redeemer in good standing.

Completing Pre-Marital Counseling. Again, we believe that, if we are going to prepare you for a wedding, we have an obligation to prepare you for a marriage.

Praying together about your relationship and marriage. This is an important time in your lives and in your relationship with God.

Next Steps

1. Contact the church office at (509) 943-4967
2. You will need to set up a meeting with the pastor. Please note that your wedding date is not finalized until you meet with the pastor.
3.
In your meeting with the pastor, you will:

Review the Wedding Information Packet
Complete the Wedding Information Sheet
Receive information to take the Prepare-Enrich Inventory

We pray that you ask Jesus to be the center of your lives together. On behalf of all of us at Redeemer Lutheran Church, thank you again for your consideration, and may God bless you on this beautiful journey.

PLAN A MEMORIAL SERVICE

At Redeemer Lutheran Church, we know how difficult it is to lose a loved one. You are not alone on this journey, we are here to walk with you. We will work closely with you and your family throughout your planning to honor your loved one’s life on Earth as well as their eternal life in Heaven. We’ve included some planning information below, but please reach out to the church office at 509-943-4967 with any questions you may have.

“But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep.” (1 Thessalonians 4:13–14 ESV)

Personalize Your Loved One’s Service

We will set up a family meeting with the Pastor to talk about your loved one and plan their service. Many families enjoy personalizing certain aspects of the service to reflect who their loved one was, things like:

Music selection – incorporating a favorite song, arranging to have their favorite instrument

Bible verses – including Bible verses that were cherished by your loved one

Decor

In addition to floral arrangements, families find it comforting to incorporate photos and other personal mementos into their loved one’s visitation. We do our best to accommodate the display of personal items that honor a loved one’s interests, vocation, hobbies or favorite items. Families are also welcome to display photos and photo boards.

Receptions

We offer several options, in the Parish hall following the service.

Becoming a Member

We are honored that you are considering membership at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Our promise is that we will accept you wherever you are in your faith walk. In following God’s plan for us as Christians, we will encourage you to grow in your faith through regular worship, study of God’s Word, stewardship, serving others and spreading the Word. We want you to get involved, but more importantly, we want you to feel connected!

There are many ways to let us know of your interest in membership at Redeemer. Here are some places to start:

Drop us a note with your offering.

Fill out a Connect form in the pews.

Call the church office (509) 943-4967.

Email your interest to the church office at office@richlandredeemer.org

The process of becoming a member at Redeemer varies for each individual

If you are a current member of an LCMS congregation, you can request a letter of transfer from your home congregation to Redeemer.

If you are from a different Lutheran denomination, you will need to attend a few sessions with the pastor where he points out the differences between the LCMS and other Lutheran denominations.

If you come from a different religious background, you will need instruction in the Lutheran faith. These sessions can be one on one, or if we have enough individuals requesting membership, a group class can be arranged.

Submit a Prayer Request

Prayer is one way we can bring our requests to God, both as individuals and as a group. Hales Corners Lutheran Church offers an online prayer request option. Simply fill out your request below and we will add it to our prayer chain.
